Alex Popham
Recruit Profile
Smart, athletic, fast, strong, coachable, extremely aggressive and uses soccer and basketball IQ to read situations on field quickly and accurately. Uses D to create scoring opps. on A.
Lacrosse is in my blood. My parents were both D1 lacrosse players, with 6 NCAA Final Four appearances between the two and 3 National Championships. My mom was an All-American midfielder at UVA (1999) and my dad was the MVP of the National Tournament (1998) at Princeton as a goalie (1999). I love playing lacrosse and have been attending or playing games since birth, as my mom was a high school coach, town and club coach for over 15 years. I have been playing club lacrosse since 4th grade, earning "most-aggressive" and "best offensive player" awards and currently play on Jersey Shore Select 2023 Blue (formerly T3 Shore). My team has endured the COVID-affected summer season, boasting a winning 15-1 victory record. This past spring at Trinity Hall, an all-honors HS, I made the varsity lacrosse team as a freshman but our season ended before it began due to the virus.
In addition to lax, I have also played soccer competitively for various club teams and now play for my high school varsity team at Trinity Hall as a forward, starting in almost every game my freshman year. Having received honors by my local newspaper as a "freshman to watch", I ended my inaugural season scoring over 5 goals with numerous assists and as a team, we earned our first-ever Shore Conference Tournament Victory. I look forward to dominating on the soccer field again this fall.
Other sports I have enjoyed playing are basketball, winter track, field hockey and skiing. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends, going to the beach or hanging out with my dogs at home. I also work as a babysitter during the summer and weekends and have spent the last two summers volunteering for Horizons, a non-profit enrichment program devoted to schooling children in lower-income areas. This fall, I look forward to going back to school again after learning virtually this past spring, and hope to learn more about the kinds of classes/majors I want to focus on in college. As an all-honors HS, I will be taking honors classes including one AP class as a sophomore and will juggle my demanding school work load with my year-round lacrosse training, club-team commitments, personal training and varsity soccer.
