Profile
Al Bean, recently announced the appointment of Angela Mallis as interim head coach for the women's lacrosse program.

Mallis replaces Ashley Durepo who recently resigned to accept the women's lacrosse head coach position at Merrimack College.

Mallis, a 2017 graduate of Wheaton (Mass.) College with a bachelor's degree in sociology, served three seasons as an assistant coach at Springfield College. She helped guide the Pride to a conference championship in 2019 and NCAA tournament appearances in 2018 and 2019. Mallis also spent one year as an assistant coach at Southern Maine in 2017.

Mallis also has been a travel coach with the LaxPlus Club (South Windsor, Conn.) in 2018-20 and the Maineiax Lacrosse Club (Portland, Maine) in 2017-2018.

"We're very fortunate to have someone of Angela's ability able to step in and direct our women's lacrosse program this spring," said Bean. "Ashley Durepo's departure left a big hole, but Angela is no stranger to our program and is widely respected in New England lacrosse circles. Her experiences as an assistant coach at Springfield and at USM, along with her club coaching background, have prepared her very well for her first collegiate head coaching position."

During her four-year collegiate career at Wheaton, Mallis played in 73 games scoring 62 goals and dishing out 18 assists for 80 points. She also collected 137 ground balls and 55 draw controls, and caused 43 opponent turnovers. She received New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference second team honors during her senior season.

Southern Maine returns 18 players from last season's team that went 1-2 before the season was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The revised schedule for the 2021 spring season is still being finalized.
USM will conduct a full search for a permanent replacement later this year.
