Ben Kniskern
Recruit Profile
Left-handed, versitile player, adaptive to the team's needs. Excellent teammate, strong lacrosse IQ. Extremely strong work ethic, rigorous student.
I started playing lacrosse in upstate NY in the 3rd grade. During 7th grade, my family moved Cleveland for my dad's job. It was a tough transition, but lacrosse was a way for me to connect with new classmates almost immediately.
As a freshman, after playing midfield all my life, the high school coaches asked if I would try my hand at attack. I went for it & was a leader on the JV team. About 4 games into the season, I moved up & earned a starting positiong on the Varsity squad - helping the team make it to the state quarterfinals. As a sophomore, I played midfield as our team made it to the state semi-finals. This pas summer, I was the 2nd leading scorer on my club team. I'm looking forward to a great year with the team during this 2019 season - continuing to grow & be a leader for the underclassmen. When playing attack, I rely on my midfield experience to cause turnovers when defense has the ball. While I am a left-handed player, I have strong stick skills with my right-hand.
I recently earned a 4.81 GPA, having taken 5 AP courses. Cumulatively, I have a 4.4 gpa. I enjoy the work in the classroom & really challenge myself for the grades I earn.
I'm a multi-sport athlete, running XC and playing football; I'm also an avid skier.
Outside of school & sports, I'm in my 3rd year as a math tutor. I've been working with the same student who is now in 6th grade. It's been a great experience to connect with him & share my love of math. He's brought his math grade up since I started working with him; it's great to see him excited about his grades.
Finally, I run the Chagrin Falls Breakfast Club - a group which serves brunch at the Ronald McDonald House in Cleveland. From October 2015 to November 2018, I've had 35 groups go & serve at the Ronald McDonald House. It's been a fantastic experience to give back, something I started doing in Albany NY in the 6th grade & then brought it to Cleveland when we moved.
I am young for my graduating class, but I believe that translates into my strength & athleticism continuing to peak, especially given my strong work ethic.
