Cole Marinello

2023 | PA: Gilbertsville

Recruit Profile
Team focused starting defenseman with strong stick skills and high lacrosse IQ, aggressive and determined multi-sport athlete.

I have been playing lacrosse since the second grade. My first lacrosse team was with the BOLT organization under coach Palladino who taught me lacrosse skills, game play and my role on the field. I played with many friends and also my two brothers. I made the high school varsity team as a freshman under Coach Wise but due to Covid there was no season of play. As a junior I was named as a captain for my team. I currently play on the Pennsylvania Roughriders Lacrosse team 2023 under Coach Corrigan and Coach Cebul where I have been a starting defender for several years. I was able to hone in on my skills, increase my knowledge of the game and execute plays effectively on defense. During my play with Roughriders, I was selected for the Under Armour All American team 2 years in a row and this summer was invited to play in the Under Armour All American Main Event Spotlight Division. I am a multi-sport athlete; I play football for my high school and am the starting center. I received All Berks County Honorable mention for Offense. I received All Academic athlete awards in football 2 years in a row. I also have volunteered for several youth camps in lacrosse and football. I have made honor roll and maintain a 3.7 GPA. I enjoy golfing and fishing with my brothers. My career goal is to go into medicine in some way and most likely have a pre-med focus in college.

I have had the pleasure to coach Cole since he was in 6th grade on my club team. He has developed into a fearless, smart, and aggressive defensemen. Cole has confidence carrying the ball and pushing transition. He is excellent on the wing for faceoffs and isn't afraid to get into a scrum to pick up a ground ball. In settled situations, Cole provides excellent on ball coverage, but is also smart off ball by continually picking off and knocking down passes. Overall, Cole is a hard worker who is committed to bettering himself in the weight room and on the field. I am confident he could contribute to any team at the collegiate level.

Cole is a tall, rangy defenseman with very good hands. my guess is he'll end up 6'3 , 220 and at that size will be an athletic force to be reckoned with. Good feet, he carries with confidence in the defensive and offensive end and has good overall lacrosse IQ. Always ready to work, enjoys the moment to moment process and would be a good teammate anywhere.

I coached Cole for 2+ years and found him to be smart, highly skilled, versatile, easily coachable and very motivated. He was a joy to have at practice and raised everyone's level (including the coaches). He effortlessly translated the hard working practices to success in games and consistently gave 100% effort. He was so dominant on the defensive end that, if needed, we would ask him to single handedly shut down the other teams biggest offensive threat. He took pride in this role and did it with regularity when called upon. In summary, Cole can lead a "team" defense and do it on his own if the situation calls for it. I have seen a lot of players over my 10 years of coaching and I can say without hesitation that Cole will be a significant contributor to any college program both on and off the field.
