Doug Steele was named the Associate Head Coach of the Northern Vermont University-Lyndon lacrosse program in February of 2021.

Steele brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the Hornet program. His primary responsibilities will involve on field coaching of the men's team, as well as skill development for both the men's and women's programs.

Most recently Steele served as the defensive coordinator at the Fairfield Preparatory School in Fairfield, CT. In addition to running the Fairfield Prep defense, he also designed the team's strength and conditioning program.

In an effort to give back and continue to grow the game, Steele founded The Approach Academy in July of 2020. He implements a curriculum based approach to develop dominating defensive players. He draws on his decades of experience as a coach and player in teaching via individual, small group, and team environments. Steele works with elite defenders players at all levels from youth to college levels.

Steele has also been very active in the club lacrosse circuit. He has been a technical coach for both the CT Wolves Lacrosse Club and Fairfield Youth Lacrosse for several years. With CT Wolves he coached various age levels, ran off-season training, and served as an evaluator and talent scout for the club. He also established off-season training programs for Fairfield Youth Lacrosse and coached their 2022, 2023, and 2024 teams to state championships.

Steele began his coaching career at his alma mater, NCAA Division I Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, where he served as defensive coordinator from 2001 to 2003. He was responsible for designing and implementing the Pioneer defensive game plan. He was also a primary recruiter and was part of the eligibity and compliance team. He has also done stints on the college level with the Albertus Magnus College men's program and the Fairfield University women's program.

In his playing days Steele was a standout performer for Sacred Heart. The 1996 graduate was a two-time All-American and a four-year team captain and defensive Most Valuable Player. Following graduation he has continued to play for various high level post-collegiate club teams.

Steele recently relocated to Lyndon.
