Elerie Dye
Recruit Profile
Relentless and scrappy defender focusing on speed, footwork, and great field awareness. Leader, communicator, and team player.
My name is Ellie Dye. Currently I am 17 years old and a Junior living in Cedar Grove, NJ. I play lacrosse for my high school team and for the Jersey Thunder Girls Lacrosse Club. I have been playing lacrosse ever since they started a lacrosse program in my town when I was in 4th grade. A fun fact - I scored the first-ever goal for Cedar Grove Girls lacrosse at any level. It came in the first scrimmage our program ever had.
I have been playing club lacrosse since 2017. I currently play for Thunder, where I have been used exclusively as a defender. I feel that my best attributes as a defender are my ability to take my cover out of the game through tight marking and 1v1 stopping ability. I also pride myself in my ability to read and anticipate the opposing offense, communications with my defensive teammates, and by working with them to adjust our strategies to counter what the attack is doing.
Along with above-average stick skills and my quickness, I am able to clear the defensive end faster than most of my opponents. This helps set up man-up opportunities on the offensive end. I usually play as a low defender and I am usually one of the first to engage offensive players breaking away into our defensive end.
I made varsity lacrosse as a freshman because of my lacrosse IQ and because of my willingness to do whatever was necessary to help the team. During my freshman season the goalkeeper for my team got hurt and was unable to play for several games. The coach turned to me to fill in for 6 games until the regular varsity goalie recovered. I went 5-1 as a keeper with a 45% save rate (55% in games that we won). I was slated to be a defensive starter this year prior to the season being canceled due to COVID. I also play soccer for my HS making varsity as a Freshman and Sophmore, playing a mix of midfield, defense and goalkeeper.
In school, I am a crew chief for the theater stage crew as well as a member of the school GSA. This year I am a representative to the NJYAC on LGBTQ+ issues. I took AP Computer Science, and will be taking AP Calculus and Physics tests. I excel in STEM .
