The Amherst College athletic department and women’s lacrosse program have announced the recent hiring of Ellen Arena as assistant coach.

Arena graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in May of 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in education. She was a four-year starter for the Herons, starting all 59 games she played in and was named captain her junior and senior years.

In 2021, Arena earned a Liberty League All-Academic distinction in the classroom. She was an All-Liberty League Honorable Mention selection on the field.

In 2020, Arena was the Patricia Price Genovese Lacrosse Award winner given to the MVP of the women’s lacrosse team after leading the team in groundballs and turnovers.

In 2019, she was a First Team All-Liberty League selection.

Following her graduation, Arena worked at HubSpot in Boston from June until January of this year before coming to Amherst.

Her father, Jack Arena ‘83, is the head men’s hockey coach at Amherst, and she has two brothers who are both graduates of Amherst.
