Ian McNaughton

2020 | PA: York

Recruit Profile
Hard working, highly competitive, dedicated leader, coachable, multi-sport student athlete; physical and intellectual team player.

I began playing lacrosse in 2nd grade. After playing attack for several years, I switched to defense in 7th grade and have continued to develop in that position. As a freshman, I was the captain of the JV team and a contributor through the county and district post season on the Varsity team. I played varsity sophomore year, starting in 5 games. As a starter throughout my junior season, I was recognized with 2nd Team All Conference Honors and helped my team win the County Championship. My size is definitely an advantage as I can play tough, physical, man-on-man defense, but I also have good speed and agility which comes in handy when clearing the ball. I am skilled at recovering ground balls and making quick decisions. I have been selected to the All Star team at the Big 12 and Sweet Lax Invitationals, had the honor of representing PA on the HS team as a rising sophomore at the Brine National Lacrosse Classic, and playing for Central PA on the 2020 team in the inaugural Mason Dixon Showcase (2018), at which I was named to the All Tournament Team. Additionally, I am a member of the Rock National Team. I have also played nearly every position on the football field. In middle school I settled into the roles of QB and inside LB and was the leading scorer, rusher and tackler on my freshman football team. I served as a captain for my 7th, 8th and 9th grade football teams. As a sophomore, I was called upon to play new positions on both sides of the ball for the Varsity team, and was a starter in all 10 games at TE and DE, earning 2nd Team All Conference honors. I was voted Captain of the varsity football team for my Junior season, again earning 1st Team All Conference honors as a guard, a new position to me. I take my academics very seriously and work hard to be a distinguished honor roll student. I am currently participating in my high school's dual enrollment program and carried a full load of honors and AP courses during my junior year, including 2 classes at Penn State York and an internship in chiropractics. I volunteer regularly in the Sunday school program at my church, serve on the church property committee, and other community outreach programs.

Ian is aggressive, hard checking, & very coachable while usually covering the best attackman. The attackman knows he's being covered by Ian! We are excited to watch Ian's growth as he is a multi-sport athlete. He'd run through fire for a coach. A great kid!
