Arcadia men’s lacrosse head coach Paul Mita has rounded out his coaching staff for the 2021 season with the addition of James Daugherty as an assistant coach.

Daugherty joins the Knights following two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at conference rival Widener.

“I couldn’t be happier to have Coach Daugherty on staff,” first-year head coach Paul Mita remarked. “He brings a lot of collegiate coaching experience with him, as well as a strong understanding of Middle Atlantic Conference lacrosse. Coach Daugherty has a great reputation in the Philadelphia lacrosse community and our program is thrilled with the addition.”

While at Widener, Daugherty served as the offensive coordinator, coached the faceoff unit, and was the film coordinator over the course of his two seasons. Daugherty’s work with the offensive unit resulted in an increase from 10.8 goals per game in 2019 to 14.4 in 2020.

Prior to his time in Chester, Daugherty spent one season as a volunteer assistant coach with Division I Virginia Military Institute where he led the Keydets’ to a 24th-ranked team faceoff win percentage nationally, improving from a 52nd-ranked mark the previous season.

Daugherty began his career as a coach with the Cannon School (Concord, N.C.) as the defensive coordinator for four seasons where he helped mentor the team to a school-best 7.14 goals allowed per game in 2017. Daugherty also has coaching experience with the North Carolina-based Top Tier Lacrosse, LLC where he saw 16 student-athletes he worked with advance to play collegiate lacrosse.

Daugherty played one season of lacrosse at Division III Bridgewater College before earning his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte in 2017. He earned his Masters of Public Administration from Widener in May 2020.
