Head men’s lacrosse coach Scott Stark announced an addition to his staff, naming Josh Coons as the program’s offensive coordinator for the 2022 season.

Coons comes to Maryville after spending two seasons on staff at the University of Indianapolis prior to serving as the offensive coordinator at St. John Vianney High School for the 2021 season.

“I’m extremely grateful to have Josh join our program here at Maryville,” Stark said. “It is no coincidence why Josh has found success at every level as an athlete and as a coach. He has a bright mind for the game of lacrosse and understands the importance of doing things right.”

During his time at the University of Indianapolis, Coons helped the program advance to the 2019 Division II National Championship semifinals before finally getting eliminated by the No. 1 team in the nation. He also was a member of the Greyhounds coaching staff as they won their second Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship in 2019.

Coons played four seasons at Lindenwood and scored 87 goals to go along with 46 assists in 53 career games for the Lions. He tallied a career-high 30 goals and recorded a career-best 19 assists in 2015, while also scooping up 27 ground balls as an attacker. Coons was in the top three in total points during his final three seasons for the Lions. A four-time ECAC All-Academic team selection, he graduated from Lindenwood in 2017 with a degree in business.

A native of Carmel, Ind., Coons was a two-time all-state honoree at Carmel High School. He helped the Greyhounds win back-to-back state championships. He was named the 2011 state tournament MVP, and twice voted All-American.
