Maria Figucia
Recruit Profile
Competitive yet calm team player and leader in multiple sports. Strong student athlete with good time management and dedication.
My name is Maria Figucia, a currently a rising senior in the class of 2022, and I've been playing lacrosse since middle school. I've been a varsity starter at Aquinas Academy since my freshman season, and I have been able to play every position (even goalie), and I play defense for my travel team, PPLC. After losing a full school season I was able to use the extra time to work on footwork, stick skills, and elevating my lax IQ, and this helped me in our recent season, as I was voted a captain and our team went farther in the post-season than ever before. I think my strongest skills defensively are being patient with checks, sending doubles, and communicating with the defense especially our goalies. Outside of lacrosse, I am a varsity starter and 2020 All-Star for field hockey. I also play indoor field hockey and earned a Sportsmanship Award and was named captain. At my small, Catholic school, Aquinas Academy, I have remained on honor roll all of high school with a 4.38 weighted GPA. Sophomore year I took AP U.S. History and junior year I took AP Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, and AP European History, and I will continue to push myself in the classroom my senior year. Throughout high school I have taken all honors courses offered and tried to challenge myself in the classroom as much as I do on the field. I was elected the 2020-21 Community Service Prefect and again for the 2021-22 school year. This leadership role had helped improve my time management and ability to be a better leader. I think my extracurriculars and academics have helped make me a smart, dominant player on the lacrosse field!
