Profile
Matt joined the Pioneers' coaching staff in 2007 as the volunteer asst. coach & has since moved from asst. coach to his current position as associate head coach

After three seasons under the former coaching staff, Brown was asked to join the legendary head coach Bill Tierney's coaching staff, upon his arrival to DU in June 2010. During his 10 seasons at DU, Brown has helped the Pioneers to a 135-54 overall record, and transitions from the Great Western Lacrosse League to the Eastern College Athletic Conference to the BIG EAST.

The Pioneers have reached Championship Weekend five times in the last eight seasons, including the 2015 National Champion Pioneers, the first program to sit atop the national plateau from a state not sharing a boarder with the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.

Sitting at 4-2 through its first six games in 2015, Denver ended the campaign on a 13-game winning streak to win the title. The Pioneers not only entered the 2016 campaign with a 13-game winning-streak, but a 16-game winning streak at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium, the longest such active streak in the nation.

After coaching Wesley Berg in the summer on the FIL World Lacrosse Champion Team Canada side, Brown coached Berg and the Pioneers to a national title in 2015, a tournament that also saw Berg named the MOP. Berg was also a 2015 Tewaaraton finalist, the first in program history.

Brown's 2015 offense was seventh in the country in scoring (13.74), first in man-up percentage (0.603), second in scoring margin (+5.26), seventh in points per game (21.95), seventh in turnovers per game (11.63) and third in shooting percentage (0.357).

A 13-3 regular season and a third-straight BIG EAST Regular Season title highlighted the 2016 campaign. Brown’s offense finished third in the country in goals against average at a 13.56 mark, while Brown’s extra-man crew also finished third at a 52-percent clip. The Pioneers finished second in scoring margin at +4.44, second in assists per game at 8.88 and first in shot-percentage at 37.7%.

Brown coached Denver to the fifth-best scoring offense in the country (13.47) in 2017 on the Pioneers way to Championship Weekend for the fifth time. In addition to Denver's scoring output, the Pioneers were 10th in man-up offense (.456), second in scoring margin (+4.71), seventh in points per game (21.06) and fourth in shot percentage (.348).
