Maya Elwood
Recruit Profile
Team leader with strong Lax IQ. Athletic attacker/midi. Team player with great off-ball movement and a relentless ride. A disciplined and dedicated scholar athlete taking 2 AP classes.
I began playing lacrosse at the age of 5, following in my mother's and father's footsteps. I joined my current club team (Coppermine Lacrosse Club) in 6th grade, and have become a leader/playmaker at the attack/midfield starter position ever since. I am comfortable with dodging with both hands, and take pride in my sharp and accurate feeds from anywhere on the field. When re-defending, I use my speed and field awareness to my advantage when jumping the goalie, and riding defenders all the way to the restraining line. Calling plays, directing traffic, and having eyes on the whole field during gameplay are reasons my teammates and coaches consider myself to be a team leader. In the fall, I play for the Garrison Forest Varsity Soccer team (IAAM 2019 All-Conference Champions), in the winter, I play for the Garrison Forest Basketball team, and in the spring I play for the Garrison Forest Lacrosse team. I am currently taking AP U.S. History, as well as AP Calculus and Science a year in advance, with honors classes otherwise. I have created my own club at school, "Teens Against Alzheimer's", which became very successful in collaboration with neighboring schools. I also have become a voluntary academic mentor/ tutor at my school, to help tutor those younger than me after school. Volunteer work is also very important to me, as every summer I find as many opportunities to help as I can, with some of my past projects consisting of: packaging and delivering 10,000 meals to homeless shelters (CLC), helping to build a community funded park in my hometown, and assistant coaching a 2029 lacrosse team.
