Mikala Gillespie enters her first season as an assistant coach for the women's lacrosse program in 2021-22.

Gillespie joined the Royals following a two-year stint at Quincy University, a Division II program in Illinois. She played a crucial role in the development of the women’s lacrosse program as the Hawks played their debut season in 2020.

“I am very excited for Mikala to join our women’s lacrosse family. She brings great experience, knowledge and energy. We are lucky to have her and look forward to a successful future,” said Trescavage.

During her time at Quincy, Gillespie focused primarily on attack and under her tutelage, the Hawks produced their first ever Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Attacker of the Week in Danielle Robinson. Gillespie’s other duties included travel planning, practice planning and social media.

She joined Quincy’s staff following a successful playing career at Rowan University where she posted 68 career points on 39 goals and 29 assists. The Profs went 47-23 during her four year career and earned an at-large berth to the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Gillespie also served as a member of the Outstanding Women’s Leader organization for Rowan athletics.

Gillespie earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from Rowan in May of 2019 and received her Master’s degree in Science Education with a focus in Educational Leadership in May of 2021.

A native of Ocean City, N.J., Gillespie remains involved with Ocean City’s feeder lacrosse programs as well as Headstrong Lacrosse South Jersey.
