Mirella Kades
Recruit Profile
Hard working, dedicated learner (in school and on the field), physically and mentally tough, multi-sport athlete, coachable, team player, member of varsity lacrosse team since 8th grade, strong lacrosse IQ
I started playing lacrosse in fifth grade for Rival, the local recreational league, and quickly fell in love with playing goalie. My love for lacrosse has been instilled in me by my many amazing coaches and teammates. I started playing for my club team, Carolina Fever, as a member of the U13 team as a goalie. Fall of my sophomore year, I was selected to be the goalie for the first North Carolina state club All-Star team, Carolina United 2022. Playing for Carolina United has been an amazing opportunity to play with teammates with whom I am less familiar and helped me adapt to different playing styles.
Being a member of Durham Academy's Varsity Lacrosse team since eighth grade has taught me how to be a leader on and off the field, even when working with people older than me. I played in over half of our games as an eighth grader, played in 13 out of 16 games with a 53% save percentage as a freshman, and started every game as a sophomore.
School sports have made my educational experience amazing because they allow me to form deep connections with teammates and mentors, provide a balance with academics, and give me pride in representing my school while doing something I love. I also play on Durham Academy's Varsity Field Hockey team and will be the starting goalie as a junior.
I love lacrosse and I am grateful for every opportunity I get to play. I am confident in my technical skills and my execution of saves and clears. I take pride in doing all of the conditioning with my team and staying in great shape. I am hardworking and dedicated to every task I take on. Although I am receiving support from my coaches on my journey to becoming a college athlete, I am taking the lead in this process and putting in the work to make my goal a reality.
I am passionate about academics and love learning. I have received High Honors in Scholarship throughout middle and high school. I am taking AP BC Calculus, AP Physics, and Honors Chemistry. I am passionate about engineering, design, and sustainability. I am the president of Urban Ministries of Durham (UMD) service club at Durham Academy, and I have been volunteering with UMD since eighth grade. UMD is a food bank, clothing closet, soup kitchen, community center, and homeless shelter.

When asked to describe Mirella over the years the first words that come to mind are “baller” & “lax rat”. Mirella is one of the most dynamic gk’s I’ve coached in a long time. She loves to play, to challenge herself and is truly a coachable student of the game.
