Mitchell Riley

2022 | AZ: Tucson

Recruit Profile
High lacrosse IQ, tough-minded, disciplined, and coachable team-first defenseman. Highly motivated athlete with a competitive spirit, strong moral compass, and great communication skills. High-character honor roll student, ready to compete.

Honor roll student and multi-sport athlete at The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT. I started playing lacrosse at age eight and from the first moment I picked up a stick, I loved the game. I quickly developed a tough defensive mindset. In middle school I played for the Tucson Bandits and in eighth grade we became the first Tucson team to win the Arizona State Championship. I was selected as a Bandits Co-Captain by my coaches and teammates. In 2019, I attended Trilogy Academic Aces and was selected to the All-Star team. At Hotchkiss, I was one of three freshmen to make the team. I really appreciate the disciplined way Coach D'Ambrosio holds us accountable for effort, knowledge, and teamwork. In January 2021 I was selected to the Apex West Coast Showcase All-Star Team. This was the Apex Lacrosse write-up:

"Riley was a constant force on the ball making offensive players dread getting him in a matchup. Riley is aggressive on the ball, but never threw a check that put him out of position. He is also very physical, able to push attackmen off the line of their dodge stifling offensive movement. Riley has great hips that allow him to recover quickly if he did lose a step. Throwing in his disciplined footwork and communication skills, Riley seems to be the whole package." - Apex Lacrosse

I was recently selected to run with the Legends National Team 2021 with Coach Rory Doucette. I pride myself on having a good stick, a high lacrosse IQ, and playing with a tough, team-oriented mindset. I joined the Hotchkiss Varsity Football Team in 2020 under Coach Danny Smith. I played starting center in 2021. I am a Co-Captain for the JV Squash Team. I played Varsity Water Polo my first two years. I am a Blue Ambassador for outreach, and tours for prospective students at Hotchkiss. I serve as a Layout Designer on the Hotchkiss Review, a biannual politics and public affairs magazine, and I am a Board Member for the Hotchkiss Special Olympics Club, focused on fundraising efforts and creating opportunity for developmentally disabled athletes in Northwest Connecticut. In summer 2020, I served as a volunteer at Camp Civitan in Arizona, a week-long recreation program for developmentally disabled young adults where I was humbled and inspired by the campers. I enjoy playing the piano, cooking, listening to music, and golf.

Mitchell is as steady as you can get on defense. His communication skills are second to none and his leadership is outstanding. He has a very solid stick, and he works very hard at his craft to not only make himself better, but his teammates as well. Mitchell is extremely reliable, a great teammate, and is a joy to coach. I can't wait to see where his lacrosse journey takes him and the success he will have!

Sound defenseman who is an incredible communicator. Mitchell understands team defense and quarterbacks/directs the team through slides and off ball action. High character individual who puts the team first. Teams need players like Mitchell in their program for what he brings on and off the field.

Mitchell is an excellent communicator both in transition and in settled situations. His strong stick skills only continue to improve, and he has thoroughly dedicated himself to the kind of preparation that is required from a strength and conditioning perspective. His future looks very bright at Hotchkiss.
