Paige Apel, a Mount graduate and former Lions' lacrosse player, returns in 2021-2022 for her fifth season as head coach for the women’s lacrosse program.

Apel was an assistant coach for The Mount from 2014-2017. She began her playing career in the program’s first year (2009), and was a four-year starter for the Mount. Apel started three seasons in goal and was a two-time team captain (junior and senior season). She was named All-Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference Second Team in 2011 and 2013; and to the All-MWLC Academic Team in 2013. In her senior year she led the conference with 147 saves overall, a save percentage of .439 in the conference, and was ninth in the nation in save percentage.

In her first year as defensive coordinator and goalkeeper coach, Apel helped the team to a 9-7 overall mark, setting a team record for most wins in a season, including a 5-5 mark in conference play. Over her years as an assistant coach she has aided the program with recruiting, game strategies, film breakdown and planning practices.

Apel graduated Cum Laude from the Mount, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and an Associate degree in Paralegal Studies. She graduated from the Mount in December 2015, with a Masters Degree in Business Administration. Apel is a member of the National College Athlete Honor Society, Sigma Beta Delta Business Honor Society, Lambda Epsilon Chi National Honor Society in Paralegal Studies; and was recognized for academics in 2012-2013 by the Ohio General Assembly House of Representatives.
