Paige Messersmith

Paige Messersmith has been named head coach of the women's lacrosse team at Ohio Wesleyan University, it was announced by athletics director Doug Zipp.

"It is with great enthusiasm and gratitude that I begin as the next head women's lacrosse coach at Ohio Wesleyan and would like to extend my appreciation to Doug Zipp and the search committee for this tremendous opportunity," Messersmith said. "The passion that the coaches, student-athletes, administrators, and alumni have for the educational experience at OWU was evident from the moment I stepped on campus. I look forward to building a collaborative, inclusive, and enriching environment where the members of our program will pursue excellence in all facets of the student-athlete experience, so that they may lead engaged lives of leadership after Ohio Wesleyan.

"I leave Dickinson with the utmost gratitude. The mentorship and support of my colleagues, student-athletes, and most importantly, (head coach) Kim Masimore, has shaped me tremendously as a coach. I am eager to join such a thoughtful and vibrant community and to build on the strong athletic tradition at Ohio Wesleyan as the women's lacrosse program strives for new successes in the NCAC."

Messersmith was an assistant coach at Dickinson for 4 seasons, working with the offense, draw team, and goalkeepers as well as assisting in practice planning, individual player development, recruiting, scouting, and strength and conditioning programming. She helped the Red Devils to a 40-31 record and 3 tournament semifinal appearances in the Centennial Conference, one of the most competitive leagues in NCAA Division III.

Off the field, she has been active in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, working with the organization's all-region selection and convention planning committees.

Messersmith began her collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant coach at Catholic (D.C.) University, where in 2 seasons, she helped the Cardinals compile a 28-10 record, win a pair of Landmark Conference tournament championships, and make 2 NCAA Division III tournament appearances, including a run to the national quarterfinals.

"We are very excited to have Paige join us at Ohio Wesleyan," Zipp said. "She comes from a very successful background in Division III women's lacrosse as a player and coach. We are very impressed with her understanding of athletics and academics, as well as her commitment to service, providing a quality student-athlete experience, and winning. Paige is a great fit for our student-athletes and will be a great addition to our team."
