Paul Nemzek is entering his third season as the head coach of the men's lacrosse team at Lawrence Technological University.

He guided the 2018-19 Blue Devils to an 11-7 overall record with a 7-2 mark in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play. The team rose as high as third and finished fifth in the NAIA Coaches' Top 10 Poll.

Nemzek became the second head coach in the history of the program in January 2018. Prior to that, he joined the LTU men’s lacrosse staff as an assistant coach in September 2016. He helped lead the 2016-17 team to a 10-4 overall record with a 6-1 mark in conference play to capture the program’s first regular season WHAC championship. The team rose as high as third in the national rankings before finishing seventh and received the program’s first at-large berth to the NAIA National Invitational where they lost a heartbreaker in the quarterfinals to second-seeded and eventual national champion Reinhardt University 14-13.

During his short time at LTU, Nemzek has coached 11 WHAC All-Conference selections, 14 WHAC All-Academic selections, three NAIA All-Americans, and four Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Prior to joining LTU, Nemzek spent over 20 years as an assistant and head coach at various high schools, camps, and clinics in southeast Michigan. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, Detroit Catholic Central, assisting the JV to consecutive league championships in 1997-98 before assisting the varsity to a third place finish in the 1999 state tournament. Nemzek was the assistant boys’ varsity coach at Detroit Country Day School 2001-05 under legendary Coach John Kenney where he enjoyed one of the most successful runs in program history including five consecutive appearances in the state finals and two state championships. During Nemzek’s two seasons as the head varsity coach at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Preparatory 2006-07, his players earned more postseason awards than the school had ever experienced. Nemzek moved on to assist the varsity at University of Detroit Jesuit 2009-2012 where his teams earned two appearances in the state semifinals and one appearance in the state finals. Nemzek then became the head boys’ varsity coach at Salem High School 2013-14 where he coached former LTU captains Austin McKee (LTU’18) and Vince Troher (LTU ’18).

Nemzek is a graduate of Detroit Catholic Central High School where he excelled in football and lacrosse. He played football at Wayne State University (MI) where he started every game at nose tackle during his two seasons with the program.
