Heisler previously served as an assistant coach at Baldwin-Wallace from 2014-2017 where he helped guide the Yellow Jackets to a 38-9 record over a three season stretch. Baldwin-Wallace reached the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championship Semifinals in each of Heisler's four seasons on the coaching staff, and to a regular-season, conference co-championship in 2016. Heisler assisted with the Yellow Jacket offense that averaged nearly 13 points per game in 2017 and saw 18 players earn all-conference honors.

Heisler also served as a development officer and coach for the English Lacrosse Association from August of 2012 to May of 2014. He was the head men's lacrosse coach at the University of Nottingham in England, where he coached three teams and also taught lacrosse during weekly visits to middle and high school squads in the Nottingham area. In 2013-14, Heisler coached four players to the England University Team while an additional four were selected to the Yorkshire Development team, and all eight competed in the British National Championship Tournament. Heisler has also worked at the club level as a coach and instructor for The Force Sports Academy in Rocky River, Ohio and as a camp counselor for the Notre Dame Boys Lacrosse Camp.

Heisler was a member of the Nottingham Club team in 2012-13 and also has playing experience for the Irish National Development Team that competed in the 2012 European Lacrosse Festival in Amsterdam and the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships in Colorado. Heisler earned a bachelor's degree from the College of Wooster where he was a four-year letter-winner. He went on to play at the University College Dublin (Ireland) in 2012 where he earned a master's degree in sport and exercise management.
