Sean Farrell

Profile
Sean Farrell is in his sixth season leading the MSOE lacrosse team.

He has continually built a program that had won just two games in four seasons prior to his arrival.

In 2018, the Raiders had their best-ever season, winning a school-record 12 games while setting almost every offensive and defensive school record. The offense scored a record 244 points, 26 percent better than the previous school standard. The defense reset the program's goals against average mark by two full goals (6.13).

Farrell's squads continue to raise the bar as the 2017 season was notable for a number of reasons. In addition to tying the then-school record with eight wins, the Raiders also won five league games to qualify for their first MLC Tournament in program history.

MSOE previously won eight games in 2015, twice as many wins as the program had in the first five seasons combined. The team also set nearly every offensive and defensive school record there is. MSOE more than doubled the school records for goals in a season and lowered the GAA standard by nearly four full goals per 60 minutes. The team’s save percentage was also over 50 percent for the first time.

In his first season in 2014, Farrell led the Raiders to two wins, their first conference victory and the first two shutouts in program history. While the win-loss record sat at just 2-12, the team was one of the most-improved programs in NCAA Division III. MSOE achieved program highs for both offense and defense on the season, increasing its goal output 67.4 percent over 2013, the seventh-best improvement among 202 Division III programs that fielded teams those two seasons. On the other end of the field, the Raiders saw a decrease of 31.3 percent in goals allowed.

The Raiders have had six players selected to an All-MLC team under Farrell, including a school-record four in 2018.

Farrell assumed the role after five seasons as an assistant under Carthage head coach David Neff. Farrell played an immense role in building the Carthage program from the ground up, taking a 3-7 team in the program’s inaugural year of 2009 and turning it into one that went 15-4 overall last season and finished second in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference. Farrell was responsible for implementing video analysis, a recruiting database and lacrosse-specific strength and conditioning program for Carthage.
