Shannon Algeo is entering her third season as the head coach of the Gwynedd Mercy University womens lacrosse team in 2019.

In 2018, she guided the team to a four-win improvement and an increase in win percentage, going from 3-12 in 2017 to 6-11, and making her first playoff appearance as head coach with the Griffins.

This past season was a record-breaking year for Algeo. She coached her team to a statistical championship; leading the nation amongst Division III programs in draw controls per game. One of her players, Lauren Mitros, broke the single-season CSAC draw control record in the process. Another of her players, Victoria Braeunle, became the CSAC Rookie of the Year while leading the offense and finishing top five in the CSAC in goals per game, points per game, and assists per game. The Griffins offense overall ranked nationally tenth in shots on goal per game, 21st in points per game, 37th in free position percentage, and 33rd in overall scoring percentage.

Off of the field, Algeo pushes her players toward academic excellence as well. In 2018, 10 out of her 13 players made the CSAC All Academic team. As a team, they won the CSAC Team All Academic award for womens lacrosse, with a combined GPA of 3.525. This year was the first time that Gwynedd Mercy University has won the award.

Algeo graduated from Moravian College where she was a letterwinner for the Greyhound lacrosse team and a Landmark Conference Honor Roll member. She earned her bachelors degree in psychology with a minor in economics. After finishing her bachelors degree, she went on to pursue her masters degree in sport psychology from John F. Kennedy University in Pleasant Hill, California. During her time in California, Algeo coached U15 lacrosse teams and summer travel teams. She did extensive personal lacrosse training with 6th through 11th graders. Algeo also started a high school program in Pleasant Hill, California where the program doubled in size after only one year. She also directed lacrosse camps throughout the bay area.

Algeo brings a variety of mental training experience to this Griffin program. She has worked on the mental side of sport with high school football, basketball, volleyball, and tennis teams. She has also worked with collegiate lacrosse teams and a dance team. She works on building teams mental toughness by increasing their confidence, motivation, focus, etc. which helps them reach their full potential on the field.
