Siena Heights University Director of Athletics Sue Syljebeck has announced Spencer Macek as the new men's lacrosse coach.

Macek takes the program after the passing of legendary head coach Ed Maloney, the creator of SHU men's lacrosse.

"We are delighted to announce the hiring of Spencer Macek as the second Siena Heights men's lacrosse coach," said director of athletics Sue Syljebeck. "Spencer has been a part of this program for most of its existence as a player, grad assistant, and assistant coach. He has played a significant role in the past success of this program and we look forward to watching coach Macek continue to build upon that in his new role."

Macek spent last season as the interim head coach of the SHU men's lacrosse team. He led the Saints through one of the most difficult years since its inception as the team battled through the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges, the team finished the shortened season 3-2 under Macek's leadership.

"It's an honor and a privilege to be able to attempt to carry on Ed Maloney's legacy and continue this program in the right direction," said Macek. "I have gotten to see the program grow from the ground up, so I got to see what works as a player and a coach. That allows me to be able to utilize my knowledge to take the culture, the program, and the sport of lacrosse at Siena Heights to the next level."

A four-year starter for the Saints as a player, Macek's name can be seen in every career statistical category, except faceoffs and goalie stats, in the SHU men's lacrosse record book. He currently sits atop the record books with 182 career points, 77 assists, and 13 man-up goals. He is second in goals (105), third in ground balls (148), and caused turnovers (36).

Macek graduated from Siena Heights University in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in business management with concentrations in accounting and marketing. He received his master's degree in business administration from SHU in 2019.
