Head Coach

Towbey Kassa was appointed as the third coach of the Oakland University Women’s Club lacrosse team in 2007 and quickly became the most successful coach in program history. In 13 seasons at Oakland, Kassa has compiled a record of 173 wins and 87 losses.

Last season, Kassa led the Lady Grizzlies to their 13th straight conference championship appearance in the Western Conference Lacrosse League and ninth appearance in the WCLA National Championship since 2010. In 2013, Kassa was honored as the WCLA National Coach of the Year.

Prior to taking over the women’s program, Kassa served as an assistant coach for Oakland University’s Men’s Lacrosse team from 2004-2006.

Kassa started his coaching career in 1998 at Troy High School where he served as an assistant coach for the Boys’ JV Lacrosse team. He was promoted to head coach in 2001 and led the team to an undefeated season.

In 2002, Kassa was hired as the head coach of Troy’s Varsity Girls Lacrosse team. In his first season at the helm, Kassa led the Lady Colts to the school’s first ever lacrosse state title and was named MHSAA Division 1 Girls Coach of the Year. In four years as the girls head coach, Kassa compiled a record of 45-13-2.

Kassa served as an assistant coach for the Troy Boys Varsity Lacrosse team in 2006. From 2010-2012, he was the head coach of the Troy Boys Varsity team. Over a combined 10 years as a head coach of both the boys and girls lacrosse teams at Troy High School, Kassa accumulated an impressive 108-51-5 record.

Before beginning his coaching career, Kassa was an accomplished lacrosse player himself. Kassa played on Oakland University’s Lacrosse team from 2000-2003, accumulating 185 goals and 123 assists. Kassa was named an All-American in 2003 and was honored as First Team Attack Man by the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association in 2002 and 2003. A natural born leader, Kassa was a captain all four years he played at OU. After graduating, Kassa was selected fifth by the Chicago Machine in the 2009 MLL Supplemental Draft.

Kassa attended Troy High School and helped lead the Boys Varsity Lacrosse team to the MHSAA state semi-finals in 1997. That season, Kassa led the team in goals and with 53 goals and 33 assists while earning second team all-state honors. He also served as team captain his senior year.
