Humphrey entered the college ranks after 20 years of coaching various sports at the high school level in upstate New York. In his most recent stop at Chenango Valley High School, Humphrey's teams earned a record of 26-12 and reached the Section IV finals during both playoff seasons, winning the school's first-ever Section IV lacrosse title in 2021. During his three years at Chenango Valley, Humphrey helped 13 players reach their dreams of playing college lacrosse and coached two all-state players and one US Lacrosse Scholastic All-American.

In addition to lacrosse, Humphrey has coached several football, softball, and wrestling champions, including two football state championships at Susquehanna Valley High School.

Humphrey graduated from SUNY Cortland in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. He is married to Jessica and has two grown children playing college sports (Caleb/lacrosse and Phoebe/volleyball).
