Durkin comes to Drexel after serving as the head coach at Bryn Athyn for the last four seasons. He led the Lions to four consecutive conference tournament appearances and a 30-29 overall record. Durkin was part of the transition team that led Bryn Athyn to full-time membership and took over a program that had just 13 student-athletes when he arrived. The 2018 North Eastern Athletic Conference championship appearance was the first in school history for any sport.

Durkin's accomplishments are not limited to coaching. The Johns Hopkins graduate has been playing professionally since he graduated in 2013, first in Major League Lacrosse and now in the Premier Lacrosse League. Durkin, who is currently a member of the Atlas Lacrosse Club, was recently named to the PLL All-Star team. He is a six-time First Team All-Pro and a five-time All-Star. In 2017, he was named the MLL Defender of the Year.

Durkin was a member of the United States National Team at both the 2014 and 2018 World Games. At the 2014 games, Durkin was named the Most Outstanding Defenseman.

As an undergraduate at Hopkins, Durkin was twice named the William C. Schmiesser Award winner, which is given to the top defenseman in Division I. He is one of just eight players to win the award twice. Durkin was a First Team All-American on two occasions and was a Second Team All-American as a sophomore. He was a semifinalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy as both a junior and a senior.

Durkin is a local product from Huntington Valley, Pa. He graduated from La Salle College High School, where he was a two-time USILA All-American.
