Mikaela Buoscio
Recruit Profile
Hustler and finisher with tenacious play; team-oriented mindset and very coachable; encouraging and empathetic; committed and driven 3 sport athlete.
I have always loved team sports, ever since I was little. I began playing competitive soccer (center forward), basketball (point guard) and lacrosse (midfield) when I was nine, and just recently picked up winter track (sprinter) in place of basketball. Being a 3 sport athlete has benefited my overall game, in terms of lacrosse IQ, off ball movement, aggressive play, and applying a "team first" mentality. I use my soccer skills - boxing out, screening, and kicking - when fighting for ground balls, earning me a spot on the draw or circle. Running winter track as a sprinter has taught me how to pace myself and accelerate when I need to. I recently completed my spring season on the Varsity Team at Westfield High School as the only Sophomore, starting each game in midfield. We took home our first state title, defeating repeat champion Bridgewater-Raritan. I received the Coach's Award for "Best Hustle" for the season, leading our team in the state finals in draw controls and ground balls. Overall, I was second in leading our team for the season in draw controls and ground balls. My strengths are one-on-one defense, ground balls, and leading attack with my dodges and feeds. I am also comfortable shooting with both hands. For my BBL Club team, I led the team in 50-50 plays, draw controls and ground balls. Academically, I am proud to have made the Honor Roll this year. I have taken Latin, and I am adding Mandarin to my schedule this year. I look forward to American Studies, a course which covers both English and History in a collaborative and collegiate setting. I will take AP Lang, AP Psychology, and AP Gov next year. I volunteer with Agape, a soup kitchen in Elizabeth, NJ, and I am actively involved with my Peer Ministry Program at St. Helens Church. I served as the President of my Sophomore Class this year, and I look forward to continuing next year on the Student Government Association. I balance my 3 sports with my two other passions, snowboarding and surfing. Finally, I take classes in Photography and Fine Arts at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York during summers.
