Leeds comes back to SU after most recently serving as an assistant coach with Rensselear Polytechnic Institute (RPI) for two seasons. Leeds was the defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for the Engineers. He helped RPI qualify for the Liberty League in 2019. Before the 2020 season was suspended, RPI ranked second in the Liberty League in goals against.

Prior to his stint at RPI, Leeds was an assistant coach and defensive coordinator for the Ferrum Panthers in 2018. In his one season with the Panthers, he helped them finish fourth in Division III in man-down defense (85%) and seventh in clearing percentage (89%).

Leeds played four years at SU as a defenseman. He helped SU win back-to-back national championships in 2016 and 2017. Leeds was an honorable mention All-America selection and All-CAC First Team honoree in 2017.
