Avery Hartenstein
Recruit Profile
6'2" draw specialist (attack/midfielder). Intelligent, coachable, focused, team player. I remain cool in high pressure situations lending to team leadership.
I am a 6'2" junior and started playing lacrosse in 2nd grade and immediately loved the sport. My mother played competitive lacrosse in college. My parents have instilled in me a hard-working ethos. As a freshman I made my High School Varsity lacrosse and basketball team. I remain active in lacrosse by joining the Lotus Lacrosse club team and private training. For the 2021 High School lacrosse season, I am starting in each of my high school varsity games. My club team summer tournament schedule includes: Summer Classic (6/5) Summer Genesis (6/19), and Capitol Cup (7/9).
One of my strongest skills on the field is the Draw. I am talented at winning the draw because I have studied and practiced the science behind it. My height and agility gives me an even greater advantage. I believe that the draw is what can determine the entire direction of the game and is arguably the most important part of the game. I continue to improve my control and placement to master the draw!
In addition to being an intelligent athlete, I am also a high-achieving student. As a member of Virginia's Commonwealth Governor's School (CGS), which is a rigorous academic program for highly gifted and motivated students, I am ranked in the top 1% of my 2023 class. There are only 593 students in the state of Virginia that are accepted into the CGS program. I am also a member of the National Honor Society. I have taken 5 AP classes since my freshman year and continue to challenge myself with more AP and honors courses.
While going to school and playing sports, I also work part-time as a Red Cross certified lifeguard at my community center. I am also a PADI certified Scuba Diver. I enjoy learning new things to improve myself and help others. I enjoy camping, traveling, playing the piano and tennis.
