Chris Barrett

Profile
Coach Christopher Barrett helped build Limestone College into a perennial power in NCAA Division II.

In his first year as the Crusaders head coach, Barrett was named the Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year. With his selection, all three of the Abbeys mens lacrosse coaches in its history have been named Coach of the Year in their first year on the Crusader sideline. Barrett guided an offense that saw five players score at least ten goals, one short of a program-high, while seven players registered double digit points, which is just one shy of the school record. Barrett, a native of East Islip, New York, assumes his first head coaching position after spending eleven years as a member of the Saints lacrosse program, the last seven as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. A 2004 graduate of Limestone and a four-year midfielder, Barrett has appeared in five NCAA national championships and eleven straight NCAA Semifinals as a player and coach, all with the Saints. This is a great day for the Belmont Abbey Mens Lacrosse program, Belmont Abbey Athletics Director Quin Monahan said. The hiring of Coach Barrett will move us all the more closer to conference, regional and even national recognition. Coach Jim Dietsch laid a great foundation and the program continues to head in a very exciting direction. Coach Barrett will be a great leader, teacher, mentor and guide for our young men and I look forward to working with him as he develops this program into his own. I am very excited to be the next mens lacrosse coach at Belmont Abbey College, Barrett said. Belmont Abbey College athletics has a bright future and I am excited to meet the guys and getting this program to the top of the conference. I am very thankful for the opportunity that Quin Monahan and Dr. Thierfelder and everyone here have given me. This opportunity would not have been possible without guidance and support from the great people at Limestone and I would like to express my thanks to everyone there. As a member of the Saints staff from 2005-11, Barrett helped lead Limestone to an overall record of 84-21, six conference titles and seven NCAA Division II Final Four appearances, including a runner-up finish in 2005. As recruiting coordinator, he pursued and captured 19 eventual All-Americans, 51 all-conference standouts and six North-South All-Stars. During his tenure on staff, Barrett served as an offensive assistant working closely with the midfield position. The Saints averaged over 200 goals a season over the seven years that Barrett has been on staff. As a Saints midfielder from 2001-04, Barrett played in four-straight NCAA National Championship games, winning the title in 2002. The Saints accumulated a perfect 35-0 conference record and an overall record of 54-10 during his career. Barrett earned his bachelor of arts in physical education from Limestone in 2004. He and his wife, Lea Anne, reside in Gaffney with their son, Christopher Edward, who was born November 16.
