Dwayne Stewart led the Hawks to a 2-2 campaign during the program's inaugural season in 2020.

He guided the team to a season-opening victory over Elmira College on Feb. 28 on the South Turf Field and then led SUNY New Paltz to an exciting overtime victory on the road against Purchase College March 11. Under Stewart's helm, the Hawks saw their first SUNYAC Weekly honor in freshman Ryan Scully who also ended the year tied for fourth in points and second in goals in the SUNYAC.

Stewart was hired in the summer of 2018 and began his first year as the head men’s lacrosse coach at the State University of New York at New Paltz during their inaugural season in 2019-2020.

Stewart attended the University of Albany from 2008-13, earning his bachelor in psychology while minoring in sociology. At Albany, Stewart was named to the America East All-Rookie Team, in addition to helping lead the Great Danes to an America East Conference Championship and an NCAA Tournament Birth. After graduated from Albany, Stewart moved on to Lincoln Memorial University in 2014, where he mastered in conflict resolution.

Before his tenure at Lincoln Memorial University, Stewart was the offensive coordinator at Copiague High School. In 2015, he was named the Wellness Center Manager at Lincoln Memorial University. He kept that position for two years, before being hired as an assistant coach on the Lincoln Memorial lacrosse team, where he handled recruiting and offensive game planning. He held that position until the summer of 2018 when the Hawks hired him.

While coaching Lincoln Memorial University, he led the team to both a top-five ranked offense in Division II lacrosse and a top-ten extra-man unit, in both 2017 and 2018.

In the summer of 2018, Stewart participated at the International World Games as a Jamaican national team member.
