Egan Butala
Recruit Profile
Athletic, strong, aggressive left hand defenseman with excellent footwork, quick hands and great stick. Leader and high 'Lax IQ'.
I started playing lacrosse at the age of 7. When I first started playing, my main positions were Attack, Midfield and Goalie. My father wanted me to try all of the positions to get a feel for what I like and to gain experience. I stuck with Attack and Midfield until I was 12. At that point, I moved to defense. It was a natural fit as my basketball background lends itself to having a solid base for the defense position. I have been playing close defense and LSM ever since. My previous experience playing both Attack and Midfield helps me understand what those players are trying to do and also provided me with a better feel on the offensive end. While I focus on defense first, I do push the play in the offensive zone whenever possible. I have always had coaches that encouraged this style and I feel very comfortable being able to play in both ends. Along with Lacrosse, I have also played basketball, football and soccer. I gave up soccer as I started to get older and picked up football. I was the starting full back and middle linebacker on my middle school football team. Unfortunately, when I transferred from my original high school to Shipley, I had to give up football as Shipley does not have a football program. I continue to play high school and club basketball however and it provides me with a nice outlet and change of pace from lacrosse. My father has always pushed me to play multiple sports and I have always enjoyed the break from one sport to another. My other interests include boating and fishing. My family has a cabin in Canada where we spend time over the summer months doing multiple water sports and fishing. I also like to spend time with my brother. He is an ice hockey player for the University of Maine. He is my role model and my best friend. My brother is one of the best athletes I know and has provided me with so much information that I have been able to use to make myself a better person, student and athlete. His focus, commitment, drive and leadership is what I strive to emulate in my future.

Kevin Goforth
Egan is one of the top dpoles for his age group. All business. Lefty with great footwork and very physical. He is always in position off ball. Never gets bead on ball. Leader on the field with communication and great stick work for clears.

Scott Lange
Egan is a dominant lefty defenseman who is equal parts finesse and strength. His size and quickness make him a noticeable force on our D and also allow him to get upfield on clears and score goals. He is a team leader and is overall a great young man.
