Ellen Newton was hired as the Graduate Assistant Coach for the Women's Lacrosse Program for the 2020-2021 school year.

Ellen is a 2019 graduate of Canisius College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Wellness with minors in Strength and Conditioning, and Psychology. She is currently in her second year of the Master's Program for Occupational Therapy at D'Youville.

Newton was a member of the Canisius Women's Lacrosse Program for all four of her years at the school, where she compiled a 10.65 goals against average along with a 0.461 save percentage. Newton capped off her career with an incredible performance on Senior Day, recording a career high 15 saves, resulting in a Griffs win.

As a junior in 2018, Newton was selected as a national finalist for the Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award, which recognizes six women's lacrosse players througout all of Division I who help their teams achieve success in ways that cannot be measured in goals, saves, or ground balls. She also earned the atheltic department's Community Service Award in 2018, as well as the Heart of a Griffin Award in 2019.

Off the field, Ellen has worked at Cradle Beach in Angola with children from disadvantaged communities and children with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Newton was pushed towards the field of Occupational Therapy after she led mission trips to Krakow and Poland, where she worked at the Dzieło Pomocy Dzieciom, a Children's Home for abandoned, abused and neglected children.

Ellen is excited to be a part of D'Youville’s transition into Division II Lacrosse and is looking forward to helping lead the team on and off the field.
