Gracyn Smith
Recruit Profile
Coachable, team player with a strong lax IQ. Strong attacker comfortable shooting and feeding with both hands.
Passionate, competitive and driven to succeed is how I view myself. These traits were developed on tennis courts and sharply honed on lacrosse fields. Tennis sparked my aggressive fire for competitive sports. From ages 5-10, I was singularly focused on becoming a nationally ranked tennis player, spending 10 to 30 hours on court. Even though I enjoyed training and strong competition, something was missing. It took walking away from the sport to gain perspective.
I was introduced to lacrosse in 7th grade and was instantly captivated. I quickly translated my tennis skills to lax: court awareness to field strategy and deeply honed hand-eye coordination skills to quickly learn passing, catching and shooting skills. Even though I am a natural lefty, I learned to play lacrosse with both hands, developing stick skills that allow me to dominate from either side. And, I found what was missing: Lacrosse gave me a team, a sense of belonging and playing for team goals.
I am a playmaker at heart. I can spot opportunity as it unfolds and direct play. I enjoy being a leader, giving guidance and encouragement to my teammates. I learned lacrosse from defense forward, starting as a defender, migrating to midi and currently in my best role as an attack-minded scorer. I have been fortunate to play for and be trained by the best coaches.
I play varsity lacrosse for Owen J Roberts High School, a top team in Pennsylvania with a five year conference champion record. Coached by David Schlesinger, I have learned how to play the attack position with aggressive decision making and patient timing. As a starting freshman, I delivered 18 goals and 19 assists, winning rookie of the year. On my club team, NXT, I am called on to be an offensive leader, and divide time between attack and midi positions. My Coach, Jessi Lieb-Martin has provided me the insight into how the collegiate game is played, and positioned me for success at that level.
Academically, I take all AP and honors classes. My interests lie in STEM subjects, from Chemistry to Biology to Pharmaceutical Sciences. I hold a 4.5 GPA and look forward to pursuing one of those fields in college. Outside the classroom, I enjoy all sports (playing, watching and viewing game film). As an avid reader and adventurer, I like reading about things and then going out to experience them.
