Recruit Profile
Hello coaches! My name is Isabelle Speer, but most people call me Izzy. I aspire to play lacrosse at the collegiate level. I am the perfect fit for your team because I have strong determination, commitment, high energy (lots and lots of it), I am a leader but also a team player, and I am extremely coachable. I value a coach’s opinion and I absorb and apply their critiques to my playing. I love lacrosse and am working on a marketing program to help further establish women’s lacrosse in the Tampa Bay area. As a child, I have always known that my purpose in life was to help others. I found my calling watching the movie, Dolphin Tale. It seems silly, but that movie inspired me to be an environmental activist. I began writing articles for my parents’ website that focused on sustainability at the age of 7. One of my hobbies is boating and while out on the water I help clean up trash in the water and beaches. I also recently helped plant mangroves to restore a salt marsh. My dream is to work on a boat studying marine life and find solutions to environmental issues. My journey to discovering lacrosse followed a similar course. I started out as a dancer at the New Tampa Dance Theater. I danced there for 13 years, training in the arts of ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, modern, contemporary, and pointe. I worked hard to advance to the company level where I was a part of their elite group of dancers. I loved dancing but knew I wouldn't pursue it as a career. One day my neighbor and good friend who now plays lacrosse at Newberry College, asked me to come to a high school lacrosse practice. I borrowed one of her sticks and it was love at first stick pick up. My stick is an extension of my arm and playing lacrosse felt so natural as if my body was molded for the sport. I joined my high school team scoring 2 goals my first game ever. I worked hard, earning a varsity spot since my freshman year. I joined my first club team that following summer and have played year-round ever since. I aspire to become a better player and improving my skills every day. I was named captain for my junior and senior year and got accepted to play on the SAWUSA team in the Lisboa Cup. When I play lacrosse, it is a separation from the outside world. Whenever I’m in practice, playing a game, or even doing wall ball, my only focus is on the sport I love, and the worries of everyday life can’t bother me.
