Washington College head men's lacrosse coach John Nostrant named James Chakey as assistant coach in the summer of 2021.

Chakey was a four-year player at Penn State University (2013-16) and helped the Nittany Lions reach the 2013 NCAA Tournament and the 2015 and 2016 Big Ten Tournaments. As a senior, he was named Penn State's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient, earned Penn State's True Grit Award and was a finalist for the Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award, presented by the One Love Foundation. He was the winner of both the Penn State Lacrosse Theil Family Lacrosse Award, which is awarded to a member of the senior class who honors tradition and legacy in representation of the Penn State Men’s Lacrosse program, and the Penn State Lacrosse Citizenship Award, which is awarded to a member of the Penn State lacrosse team for their active duty in representing the team on and off the field, while connecting with surrounding communities.

On the field, he scooped up 66 ground balls in his career and tallied two goals and two assists for four points in 44 career games

During his time in State College, he was a member of the Penn State Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB) where he served as Special Event Committee Co-Chair as the board targeted community service within local townships. He helped lead and develop a team of over 200 members to involve student-athletes in off-sight community affairs such as Uplifting Athletes, Wounded Warriors, Habitat for Humanity, Relay for Life, and Make a Wish Foundation.

Chakey has stay involved in lacrosse since graduating from Penn State. He serves as an Strategy and Business Development - Executive Partner at Lacrosse Trainer, LLC and Founder and CEO of The Chakey Group, LLC. He is also an owner of both Carolina National Lacrosse and Tennessee National Lacrosse. He is also the Lead Developer, Owner and Chief Operating Officer of Red Wolf Sportsplex, a future sports recreational facility in Mebane, N.C.

From 2009-17, he served as a coach and in business development for Mesa Fresh Fever Lacrosse, Greater Philadelphia's premier lacrosse club. During his time, the team won multiple national tournaments such as the NXT Cup, Dicks Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions, Hotbeds, Tri-States and the Inside Lacrosse Invitational.

He has also worked for Aramark in Delaware and Cypress Creek Renewals in North Carolina since graduation.

Chakey is a 2016 Penn State University graduate where he earned a B.A. in Criminology.
