Jason Shekelton
Recruit Profile
I am always wanting to help others succeed. On the field I will play any position my team needs. I don't shy away from challenges and I am very coachable. I enjoy taking face-offs because my winning gives my teammates the ball and gives us a chance to score. Off the field I also like to contribute to the success of others.
I have been active in many sports in my life including, swimming, basketball, select soccer and football. I was on the varsity football team sophomore year and just recently decided not to play this fall, my junior year, so that I can further focus on lacrosse.
I started playing lacrosse in the second grade and have played all positions except goalie. I began doing face-offs in the 8th grade and currently that is my primary position. I transitioned to varsity my freshman year, the same year I won the triple threat award. When I'm not playing for my high school team, Chaminade College Preparatory High School, I play with Samurai Lacrosse Club, a club I have been with since 6th grade. Recently, I was selected to join MO22 and I also play for Shoguns.
My coaches describe me as a team player and very coachable. One of the reasons I have played so many positions is because I'm willing to play whatever role necessary to further the team.
Academically, I have been successful, carrying a cumulative GPA of 3.3 that includes honors courses while balancing athletics. The subject I am strongest in and enjoy the most is math. I am interested in pursuing a degree in both engineering and business in college. This fall some of the courses I will be taking are ACC History, Honors Biology and Advanced Math.
When I am not in the classroom or on the field, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also am engaged in service with different organizations, by working with kids or helping with the homeless. I am thankful for the life I have and feel good when giving back to others.
