Two-time Division 1 All-American (Villanova T&F); 30+ years Coaching exp.; Reign Lacrosse Coach (current); Former HEADstrong Philly Girls Co-Founder, Head Coach (2021, 2024) & Program Administrator.

In August 2021, Joanne (Van Rensselaer) Hippensteal joined Reign Lacrosse where she was offered the opportunity to assist Noelle Cebron Powell in building the lacrosse program, and without hesitation Joanne joined Reign as the program aligns with her coaching values that "you can have a competitive-based program that teaches lacrosse fundamentals, builds character on and off the field and is family focused." Joanne brings over 30+ years of coaching experience not only in lacrosse but swimming, field hockey, basketball and track at the youth, high school and club levels.

Prior to Reign, Joanne served as Program Administrator for Headstrong Philly Girls from September 2016 to July 2020, and head coach of the 2021 & 2024 teams from 2015 to 2021. Joanne was one of the original co-founders of HEADstrong Philly Girls, where she partnered with since retired General Manager, Debbie White, in August 2015 to bring two local lacrosse clubs together. With the retirement of Debbie White in August 2020, Joanne returned her focus solely to coaching, which is her passion.

While a Division 1 track and field athlete at Villanova, Joanne volunteered as a coach and mentor to the Marple Newtown School District athletics department (track & lacrosse) and Suburban Swim Club (USA Swimming Program). After graduating from Villanova in 1987, Joanne continued coaching at the middle and high school levels for lacrosse, field hockey basketball and track & field with Marple Newtown and Cheltenham School Districts from 1987 to 1999. Joanne returned to youth coaching when her children became of school aged and has not looked back since 2003.

Her commitment to the lacrosse community continued to grow as she served as a board member, head coach, program director/co-director of Wissahickon Girls Lacrosse Club from 2008 to 2016. Her passion in understanding every aspect of the game led Joanne to become a certified PIAA and US Lacrosse official in 2010. She currently officiates through the high school level in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Prior to following her passion in lacrosse, Joanne was a six-sport athlete in high school where she graduated with two HS All American distinctions (T&F 1981, 1983). Joanne earned an athletic scholarship to Villanova and two Division 1 All American distinctions, where she was part of the 1984 NCAA championship team (3rd), 4-Big East Championship teams, 2-ECAC Championship teams, qualified for 4-NCAA championship meets and set 4-Big East records.
