Former Boston University women's lacrosse All-American Lauren Morton (CAS'08) has returned to the program to become the next head coach of the Terriers.

Morton, who most recently was the associate head coach at Duke, served as an assistant coach for the Terriers from 2010-12. She becomes the fourth head coach in program history - and first alumna to serve in the role - and will be formally introduced on Tuesday (June 19) at 11:30 a.m. at Nickerson Field.

A 2008 IWLCA All-America midfielder, Morton served as a team captain her final two seasons at BU and helped the Terriers earn four straight America East tournament titles and NCAA Tournament appearances, reaching the national quarterfinals twice. She was on the field for all three of the NCAA Tournament wins in program history and received IWLCA all-region honors as both a junior (second team) and a senior (first team).

"On behalf of our entire department and university, it is a pleasure to welcome back Lauren to BU," said Marrochello. "Based on the impressions she left here as a student-athlete and an assistant, it is no surprise that she has put herself in position to take over this program and will aspire to achieve as a head coach the type of success she did as a student-athlete.

"Lauren is a true competitor and she is equally beloved and respected by teammates, players, colleagues and administrators. She is thrilled to once again return here, and we couldn't be happier to have her back."

Morton graduated as the program's all-time record holder in draw controls with 182 and accounted for 179 points, 160 goals, 144 ground balls and 92 caused turnovers throughout her career, all of which currently rank within the top-10 all-time in BU annals.

"It is a great honor and privilege to have the opportunity to return to Boston and lead the BU Women's Lacrosse program," said Morton. "I am incredibly humbled and would like to thank President Robert A. Brown, Senior Vice President Todd Klipp, Drew Marrochello and all of the wonderful people at BU for this opportunity. This is a very special and exciting time for me as BU has always been my second home and this is a dream come true."
