Matthew Wall

2019 | PA: Eagleville

Recruit Profile
Exceptional hand/foot speed, excellent ball-stopping percentage. Take-charge Player. Multi-sport Athlete. Respected Teammate. Eagle Scout Candidate. Disciplined.

I started as a Goalie for the Collegeville Cougars when I was 10 years old. I've spent 7 years learning the position, and I was the youngest-ever player (at 13) to be admitted into Joe Donnelly's Goalie Camp.

My community Lacrosse program is not among the area's strongest. My father, (a Penn Charter graduate), through connections in the Inter-ac league, secured me a tryout with Fusion Lacrosse Club. I made the team, and my skills then quickly escalated under better coaching.

In the Fall of 2016, I was recommended as a guest goalie in the Big4 Tournament at The Hill School, playing with Mesa Fresh Elite 2018. I was asked to move up one year in competition, representing one of Philadelphia's finest teams. It was at Big4 that my improvement at the Club level was noticed, and where I earned scouting reports that labeled me as a top area talent at the goalie position. At this tournament, in leading Mesa Fresh 2018 to 3 victories against a top Canadian team, Laxachussets, and Long Island Express, I posted a .700+ save average. The 2018 Mesa Fresh coach, Scott Gabrielsen, in a PhillyLacrosse article, described me literally as a "WALL", a compliment to my actual last name (Matt Wall). Due to that performance at this 2016 Fall Big4, I was offered a position on Mesa Fresh 2019 by Mesa Fresh founder, Bob Aitken. No tryout was necessary. Mr. Aitken's written scouting report compared me favorably to two Mesa goalies, since committed to Air Force and North Carolina.

I show loyalty to my first Club Team, Fusion Lacrosse, founded by former UVA All-American and New York Lizards defenseman, Steven Holmes. I represented Fusion at the 2017 "Terrapin Classic", in June.

Due to my success at Big4, I have positioned myself as a reliable Guest Goalie. As an example, I guested for Delaware's 2017 State Champion "Salesianum School" in last Summer's "Haverford School Invitational". I took some lumps against a clearly superior Canadian team, but I settled down, posting a 6-5 victory against PIAA semi-finalist, Garnet Valley.

I excel supporting a great defense, because my ball-stopping skills make perimiter shots a low-percentage reality for any team. Shots at point-blank range are a challenge, but I expect myself to rise to that, and never to make excuses. Thanks.
