Coach Matlock is in his fourth season as head coach of the OU men's lacrosse team.

In his previous three seasons, Matlock has one KCAC Championship, coached 11 All-KCAC selections, one KCAC Offensive Player of the Year, and four NAIA All-Americans. He has an overall record of 15-14.

In a shortened 2020 season due to Co-VID19, the Braves had an overall record of 2-3 and a KCAC record of 2-1. Ottawa finished the season ranked ninth in the NAIA in total assists (33), ninth in total shots (200), 10th in total shos on goal (128), 11th in shots on goal per game (25.6), 12th in total points (86), 12th in total goals (53), 13th in assists per game (6.6), 13th in total saves (60), 14th in shots per game (40), 17th in goals per game (10.6), and 18th in saves per game (12).

The 2019 Braves captured the program's first KCAC Championship, finishing with an overall record of 7-6 and a KCAC record of 5-1. Ottawa had six players earn All-KCAC honors with Aidan Baker being named KCAC Offensive Player of the Year. Baker and Ryan Alley earned NAIA All-American honors for the Braves. The Braves broke five team single season records and three individual season records.

In Matlock's first season, the 2018 Braves finished with an overall record of 6-5 and a three way tie for third in the KCAC with a record of 3-3. OU set five team single game records in Matlock's first season.

Before coming to Ottawa University, Matlock was the head coach at Blue Valley West High School (BVWHS) in Overland Park, Kan. While at BVWHS, he led the Jaguars to three consecutive LAKC State playoffs, finishing second in 2016. Under Matlock’s leadership, three players were academic All-American nominees, two were All-American nominees and two players were named All-Metro. In 2015 and 2016, he had 92 percent of his graduating seniors move on to play college lacrosse. BVHS was also nationally ranked on the FOGO (Face-Off, Get Off) Ratings.

Matlock also coached the 2019-2020 Team Fountain City Lacrosse Club and he was the Assistant Director for KC Heartland Lacrosse during his time at BVWHS.

Prior to that, Matlock was the assistant varsity and defensive coach at BVWHS. He was an assistant coach at Marquette High School in Chesterfield, Mo., from June 2009 to June 2011. Matlock was also an assistant coach with Chaminade College Prep in Creve Coeur, Mo., and head women’s coach at Parkway South High School in Manchester, Mo.
