Tanner Shimko
Recruit Profile
Love the game! Strong lacrosse IQ, dedicated, hard-working and coachable. Supportive teammate and leader. I am also a multi-sport athlete.
I started playing lacrosse in second grade as a midfielder. The following year I volunteered to be the goalie for a game. I enjoyed it so much that I began splitting time, half as a middie and half as a goalie. By the 6th grade, I became a full-time goalie. I have trained with some of the best goalies and goalie schools/programs in the country. I have attended summer goalie camps and currently train weekly with a private goalie coach.
I also attend speed/agility class and the gym three times a week in the off-season and once a week when in season. My favorite part of my training is the Neuro Fitness machine that I use regularly. It has made a huge impact on my hand /eye coordination and speed. It has significantly improved my game and how I see the ball.
I am very fortunate to be a student at Delbarton School in Mendham, N.J. I chose Delbarton because of its education and its successful lacrosse program. I was also very excited to play for Coach Kovachik. My commitment to Delbarton is different from most of my teammates. Delbarton is more than 50 miles from my house each way and has me on a bus almost 3 hours a day. My commute makes it difficult to train for lacrosse while playing another sport. I love football and I felt like it made me a tougher and better lacrosse goalie. But I felt it was important to take a break during my recruiting year so I could spend more time on lacrosse and strength training. I intend on returning to football next summer and want to continue to play lacrosse and football throughout high school. Before football, I played soccer for 3 years.
I do well in school. I work very hard to keep my grades up. I want to play high-level lacrosse and I know grades are a big part of that. I have many interests and look forward to my next four years of high school and what it will bring.
