Waverly Nakashima
Recruit Profile
Dedicated goalie with strong leadership skills and high-level commitment.
Hi! I'm Waverly Nakashima, and I'm from Montgomery County, MD. I'm a Junior at Wootton HS in Rockville, MD. I have been the starting Varsity goalie for the last 2 years, and I had over 140 saves during both my Freshman & Sophomore seasons. This season I was proud to be named an All-County Honorable Mention goalie. I play club for MC Elite Midnight 2024. Previously, I played for HoCo Black 2024. I have been playing lacrosse since Kindergarten, and I've been playing exclusively as a goalie since 4th grade. It's the position I was born to do! Even when things are tough, I feel like I carry the responsibility of the position well. On the field, I am a supportive, active leader who believes in developing strong relationships with my defense. I work hard to be worthy of my teammates' and coaches' trust, which means I try hard at every practice and am very coachable.
Academics are extremely important to me (3.81 unweighted, 4.61 weighted). 5/7 of my Freshman & all of my Sophomore classes were honors or AP. I am in the Arts & Humanities honors program and on the Early Childhood studies track. This year 6/7 of my classes are AP or Honors. I've passed the AP Government and Politics test and the AP US History exam. I hope to go to college possibly to study Special Education and Music Education.
Outside of lacrosse, I'm a musician who plays trumpet and double bass. In the Fall, I participate in the Wootton HS Marching Band which competes statewide weekly and performs nationally as well. I also play in the Orchestra Pit for my school's Spring Musical.
I try my best to excel at everything I do and hope to bring my determination to the right college.

Waverly is a dedicated player that I have had the privilege of coaching both as a young player, and now as our starting high school varsity goalie. Waverly has always been dedicated to improving her play and growing on the field. Waverly seeks out opportunities to guest play on travel teams and discover clinics and camps to continue working to be the best goalie she can be. Waverly will sometimes attend multiple trainings in a day. She is not afraid to put the work in. Waverly is vocal in the goal and leads her defense to be successful. She contributes input during half time to contribute to adjustments needed on the field. Waverly always brings her passion for lacrosse to the field.

I have had the pleasure of being Waverly’s primary position coach for the last two years. In that time, I have witnessed Waverly as an excellent goalkeeper, hard worker, and uplifting teammate. Waverly continues to work hard to hone her craft. She focuses on moving to the ball and using her frame and angles to decrease the area of the goal for shooters. Waverly attends many clinics and goalie sessions outside of practice. Waverly is an exemplary and uplifting teammate. Part of being the best goalie you can be is communication. Waverly has, from her first day with our team, taken control of the defense, calling out slides and cutters, and putting her defensive unit in the best positions to make big plays. On the sidelines Waverly is one of our team’s loudest and most positive cheerleaders. She can always be heard hollering “you’ve got this” to field players and our other goalie. Waverly is also a straight a student, an accomplished musician, and kind person.

She is a great communicator on the field and helps to lead the defensive unit. Straight A student and very well rounded.
