I started playing lacrosse in the fourth grade, and it soon became my No. 1 sport. I did everything in the beginning -- middie, faceoffs, even goalie -- but settled on defense sometime in fifth grade. I became an LSM with my club team the summer after sixth grade.
In eighth grade, I tried wrestling, and I won a Novice Tournament at the end of the season. In lacrosse that spring, I was chosen to play in the Gil Gibbs eighth grade All Star lacrosse game.
In ninth grade, I played freshman football, wrestled varsity, and was the LSM on the JV lacrosse team. That summer, my older brother and I tried out for the Jamaican national lacrosse team. At 15, I was the youngest player at the tryouts.
My sophomore year, I was the QB and safety for the JV football team -- which went undefeated -- and also earned a varsity letter. I started on the varsity lacrosse team, at close defense, and had 28 ground balls in 17 games, including a game-high seven in our 15-2 state sectional semifinal win over Kinnelon. Our team played zone defense most of the regular season, and went man-to-man in the playoffs. I was comfortable in either.
In the summer, I played up on the 2019 team for my club, Central Bergen.
Junior year, I started at defensive back for the varsity football team and had three interceptions and 56 tackles -- 46 over the last five games, including 11 in our playoff game. After the season, I was named Second Team All-League on defense. In wrestling, I was 18-15, with 14 pins. Academically, I earned a silver medal on the National Latin Exam in both freshman and sophomore years, and in junior year, I made the High Honor Roll in all four marking periods.I also tutored some of my classmates in Physics. In lacrosse, I started at LSM and was named Second Team All-League and Honorable Mention All-Bergen County.
For the third straight summer I am working for the town recycling program, on the Litter Patrol. I have volunteer-coached the defensemen on my younger brother's youth lacrosse team, and worked with the youth wrestling program, demonstrating moves to elementary and middle school wrestlers. On weekends in the winter, I play CYO basketball. This summer, I played club lacrosse for Brotherhood Lacrosse.
